Mr.A-Z

Saw Jason Mraz last night at Merriweather

with my friend Sam.

It was g-r-ea-t. I have been a Mraz fan for about 7 years but have never seen him live. Boy is he fun! And he played some of my favorite songs. So many are happy and danceable and jazzy!
Like this one:
The Dynamo of Volition

(yes, this is filmed from the concert last night-but no, I did not film it because I did not have front row seats :) )

Jason Mraz is such a great example of someone who is having a BLAST using his talent. He's great to watch beause he loves it. Which makes you love it. PLUS, besides these fun dancey songs, he has some PROFOUND stuff in his songs, too.
Wanna see another video? Of course! This one is called "Beautiful Mess" and it is what I named my blog after (well, that last part isn't exactly true. But it is a great song. Check out this lyrics from it: "Hey, what a beautiful mess this is/It's like picking up trash in dresses/Through, timeless words and priceless pictures/We'll fly like birds not of this earth").

PLUS, I got to meet some Nativity folk which was like an triple added bonus! A new friend called me a "rock star," so clearly I should have been backstage hanging out with Jason Mraz, but he didn't get the memo I guess. :)

Okay, last Jason bit: One of my favorite songs is called "When God Moves through You" and it is so ridiculously beautiful (and surprisingly very theological) I just HAVE to share the lyrics because it makes me so happy and thoughtful.
you were born together
and together ye shall be forever
until death should scatter
it wouldn't matter in the memory of God above
let the wind of heaven dance between you too
allow the space and time to bring you closer to everlasting love
cause God moves
what do you do
God moves through you

when love beckons
his ways are often hard and steep
when his wings enfold
ye yield to all he speaks
the sword it might be hidden there among his pinions
oh you may wear a wound that truly spoke to you
believe in all that voice and follow through
follow so on and on

what do you do when God moves through you
what do you do
say i do
i do

just remember love possesses nothing
nor would it ever be possessed
oh love is love sufficient unto love
and you can figure out the rest

your children will not be your children
they are the daughters and the son of a beginning
they'll come through your womb but not be coming from you
they will be with you but do not belong to you
you may give them your love but not your thoughts
then they'll arrive with their own hearts
they're the coming of angels this blessed season
and then they'll sing oh how God rests in reason
God rests in reason

so what do you do
ooh when God moves through you
what do you do
say i do
i do

think not you can direct the course of
love itself directs the course allowed
believe not God is in your heart, child
but rather you're in the heart of God

what do you do
say i do
i do
i do

think not you can direct the course of
love itselfs directs the course allowed
believe not God is in your heart, child but rather you're in the heart of God

Whoa. God has shown me lots through that song, and I really enjoy when God shows up in random places. We don't have to confine ourselves to teeny Christian boxes...because a lot of times when we don't we not only meet other people where they are, but we ALSO get our eyes open to just how much God loves US-not just me, or you, or your family...US.

Every single human being:)

Kristin,

You and my daughter Banke must be the biggest Jason Mraz fans on the face of earth. He came to her school at Pittsburgh a couple of years ago and she managed to get a picture with him. She was a senior in college but she was gushing like a twelve year old. I kind of got to hear some of his songs too and liked them.

heyyy, i was just perusing your blog (i LOVED the uniform project). have you ever read 'the prophet' by kahlil gibran? some of the lyrics from 'when God moves through you' come right from the prophet! i looooved the book when i was in college (i'm sure lisa remembers), and when i was reading the lyrics you posted, i was struck! if you haven't read it, i'm guessing you would like it. :) check it out, particularly the sections on love, marriage, children, and reason and passion (all of which seem to be the inspiration for the lyrics):

(p.s. 'a beautiful mess' is probably my fave mraz song!)
