God has been showing me a lot about selfishness, and the causes and effects of it. What is the big thing about claim and ownership? I am facinated by how possessive we can be when it comes to material items, people, and places. We put so much of our energy and our effort into what BELONGS to us and what is rightfully ours. Which, of course, only makes us want more things. We say things like "this is MY seat," "that was MY sandwich" "this is MY song," "well, this is my house," "she's MY mother". I don't know, it is just really hitting me hard how often we decide only to deal with what is ours and only ours. This, to me only creates more division. Becuase, okay you have this mercedes and I have a ford. Therefore we are divided by not only our ability to speed down the highway, but also our financial status. I don't know how this could possibly be fixed, but I feel as though the less we begin to care about what's really ours, the more we can learn about unity and encouragment. Say someone's hurting, either physically or emotionally. Well, shes not MY friend...who cares?! Help her anyway! Trash all over the sidewalk you're walking on?...'well it's not MY trash." so what? pick it up! It's more then taking responsibility, it's surrendering our self inflicted status of living! It is the essence of compassion! Helping our everyone and anyone without any sneaky intention, because in your life you will be there, too!
We misconstrue this concept of freedom all too often. God gave it this freedom not to separate us from Him, but to draw us closer! "You, my brothers, were called to be free. But do not use your freedom to indulge the sinful nature; rather, serve one another in love." -- Galatians 5:13! We are called to serve for the glory of God! What we do to ourselves will take an effect on us. We must be spiritually alert and not be lukewarm! We must take steps forward and persevere! It takes work. But if it means I get to be closer to God, then Lord please-take ALL OF MY TIME! Anytime spent not glorifying You and serving You and loving You is *W*A*S*T*E*D. You are unlike anything on earth. You're more satisfying, more loving, more powerful, more merciful, more rightousness then any of MY peers.
